As a Spanish translator hard times surely hit you when you were unable to match words. It often happens when dealing with translations from Spanish into English. There are many Spanish words that do not have an equivalent in English which leads to additional work from the translator. Lack of proper wording and vocabulary  has deep roots in cultural, linguistic and ideological differences between people.

If you are a new Spanish translator just beginning your career, you need to equip yourself with all the essential tools to gather authentic and reliable vocabulary in order to provide quality translations. A connection with an experienced translator will always be of great help as well.

There are many words in Spanish language which do have a direct English translation. But with extensive research, a Spanish translator is able to find suitable replacements for some of the troubling words.

Here are some of these words that can give problems when doing Spanish translation: Friolero, Tocayo, Sobremesa, Dwende, and Pena Ajena.

Words that can put off a Spanish translator

Friolero means a person who is sensitive to cold weather.

Tocayo is used when you meet a person sharing same name as yours. Many cultures do not have such term but in Spanish you will find term ‘tocayo’ for the same name.

Sobremesa: In Spanish, people engage in conversation after having lunch which in English termed as siesta. So sobremesa is synonym for siesta in Spanish.

Dwende: It is an imaginative and mythical creature which looks like to a goblin and dwarf but it is not any of these two but something else.

Pena Ajena: this word means describing an embarrassing situation experienced by someone else but told by another person.

Do you know more such words that can become mind boggling for a Spanish Translator ?
