You cannot always make all your customers stay, that is normal in a business. There are things you cannot do anything about and even if you are a good English translator, or a Spanish translator , there is still a chance that you will lose a customer. Fortunately for you, there are still more things in translation jobs that you can control. Sometimes customers leave, because you are not dealing with them correctly and you just have to assess what it is you’re doing and what you can do to make things better.

Translation jobs

Most of the time you get a translation job from a translation agency, because you know one person who works there and that person has a say that they pay to do the job. If that is the case, your job usually ends as soon as your contact is no longer connected to that company. Sometimes large companies undergo a major change when their management changes and that may include changing service providers. Things like that happen whether we like it or not. Many businesses have to close down or lay off numerous employees when they face a financial crisis. This is aggravated when they start to lose customers, because even their clients can no longer afford their needs. Make the appropriate plan and continue building your clientele. It is possible that customers are not hiring you because their needs have changed.

Get feedback from your clients and find out why they are not satisfied with your service; Do they want you to deliver a large project within a tight deadline that it is impractical or almost impossible? It will probably be to your advantage to let go of such an unreasonable customer. Maybe they feel that your service is not good enough and they are at the losing end of your agreement. Talk about this with your customer, be receptive and straightforward at the same time, and try not to be offended no matter how hard it could be.

There are customers you should avoid getting translation jobs from. You are not obliged to work with anyone you do not like. They often say customers are always right and it seems unacceptable to refuse to deal with a client but there are reasons you should do this.  There is no use doing business with someone you cannot agree with in terms of money and time. However, you should also be honest and do everything to make things right if a customer is leaving because of your fault.

Translation is not a trade where you can guarantee that your customer will stick with you, unless you sign a contract as a back-up, because there are just too many translators out there. Employers will make sure they get the services that will give them the best value for their money. Vendors are evaluated annually by these companies to determine which ones they keep and which ones they show to the door. You have to accept that in business as such things happen, no matter how much you do not want them to.

It is important to make sure that your customers remember you and your contact details if you want them to give you more translation jobs in the future. If they need something to be translated or interpreted, you want them to think of you. Your name should be the first name that will come to their minds. Make a brand of your own and make your presence known from time to time so they will not forget you. Always work with a professional translation service, as you will get many benefits working with them.

Looking to get translation jobs?

If you are looking for a worthwhile career that will give you the flexibility to stay at home and work at your own pace without someone supervising you, then maybe you can consider trying your hand in translation. Translation jobs are not easy to come by. There is a lot of competition for these jobs and you can always find people over the internet who can speak two languages or more. You can find translation work the traditional way, that is, scan different directories, dress up, show up, submit your curriculum vitae, and apply for the job. It is always an advantage if the employers see you personally as compared to just reading your application online. A translation agency usually works on translation jobs that involve their native language and it is good for you to find these companies in your area, because you speak the same language.

Agencies usually offer numerous translation projects and they do not seem to run out of it, but it is better to get direct customers, although you have to put an extra effort in getting them, because you can earn more and you can negotiate better with your customers.

There are many people posting translation projects online and they are mostly open for bidding. Most of the time, these people post jobs in local sites of the area speaking the language they are interested in, and that is why you can be sure to find translation work that you can do with local sites. You can later check out other sites from elsewhere.

It is easier to get a translation job if you are connected to an established translation company. This is because they usually prioritize giving work to people that they have on their list. Getting you on their database makes it easier to know you and your work experience through feedback. Translators also have different skill sets or qualifications and using a database makes it easier to find the one who will fulfill the job requirement.

There are professional translation services companies who will ask you to apply by either having you fill out online forms or sending you a document that you have to send back through mail or email. Just go ahead and fill out these forms if you have time. You might be given better work opportunities than the small time translation jobs you now have, because most of the time the ones sending these forms are large businesses that handle more and better-paying assignments.

These large companies would sometimes require you to comply with certain requirements that may include, but are not limited to, unpaid translation tests, before they hire you. You will soon be in a position to demand a higher price when you have established your name and you have gained more experience from the many translation work you did. This is how you will succeed in this career.

Do not work on translation jobs without the guarantee that you will be paid, because there are translation companies that ask people to do jobs for them and when the work is finished, they just disappear and change their site so that people will not know it is the same. Do not be fooled!
