German to Polish translation – when is it necessary?

When one thinks of translation, the target language is almost always English. So to see a German to Polish translation seems odd. Aren’t the two neighbouring countries?

Why would there be a need for German to Polish translation? When is it necessary?

Germany and Poland, friends or foes?

Germany and Poland have always had a colourful history as adversaries. From the Polish-Teutonic wars in the middle ages to the Second World War, and until the fall of communism. Each has been trying to conquer the other, and neither side gained, only to lose so many of their countrymen in battle. It is a shame that two such magnificent neighbouring, and very similar countries have been at odds for a long time instead of working together. They both like beer and they both like pork.

Germany and Poland, present time

Nowadays the economy of Germany and Poland are inextricably linked. It is only those who are ageing who remember the old conflicts. In fact, the German language is considered as Poland’s second language and is considered more important than English. Poland is a rising star in the European economy, and a lot of German investments are being poured into Poland.

Polish people have migrated to Germany; German people have migrated to Poland.

German to Polish translation – when is it necessary?

There was a time that the Polish language contained a lot of German words, but time has changed these words into similar-sounding Polish words. So no matter how similar the languages are, Polish people would still need German to Polish translation to make sure that there are no fatal misunderstandings. And to have it done right, you will need professional translation services.

Why Polish translation and not English translation?

Also, even though a lot of Polish people can speak and understand English, it is at the conversational level, for making friends and shopping and recreation. For business and industry-related uses, even if most Polish persons can read most of an English text, there will be still some words that can be unclear, and that can be detrimental in negotiations and hazardous in the working area. Financially-related documents, technical manuals, newspapers in Poland are in Polish language.

Being similar as languages, it is better to translate the German language to fellow Slavic language Polish, than to distant English. There are a lot of German words that cannot be adequately described, much less translated directly into English.

In Polish schools and universities, English is only a foreign language subject. Textbooks and the medium of instruction are in the Polish language. How can they learn about Germany, learn from history’s mistakes and improve future relations? Only by German to Polish translation. Polish translation for Polish people.
